Hi there! Sean here at Idealogical. I’m with John today and were here to talk to you about Safe web browsing.

In today’s internet world, it’s no secret that it’s very easy for you to get a virus or type your information into a fake website when you’re online. There’s a lot of ways that you can get trapped by fake websites or downloading a virus when you’re online by just clicking on a simple link.

1. One way to be safe while web surfing is to use your computer’s firewall. It’s built in so you don’t need to download it. The firewall is your first line of defense against viruses and its job is to block and scan anything it sees that maybe harmful to your computer.

2. If you are worried about a link that you are about to click on there are ways for your browser to show you if that link is okay or safe. Do this: Simply take your mouse cursor and hover it above that link. Wait for the text box pop up to appear. The box will pop up and appear and you can read the link that’s in there. If it says it’s a different website than what the link is advertising then don’t trust it.

3. The easiest and best way to stay safe while web surfing doesn’t take much work at all. Just look at the screen when you go to a website that is secure it will be https and it usually has this little lock. That little lock means the information on that site is secure.

4. Lastly, the last way for you to stay safe online is to stay smart. Look before you click. This way you don’t click on something accidentally that can be harmful to your computer or you don’t download a virus. If you log in to online banking or check your accounts in any way, change those passwords frequently and keep them to something that no one else would be able to guess. Also keep your antivirus software on your computer up to date. This way if anything should happen to your computer, it can be cleaned by your antivirus.
